A mild transition – The Big Picture on Friday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A low and front combination push towards NZ during the day from in the Tasman Sea – though the worst of the weather won’t reach western parts of the country until evening and overnight.

In some respects, most of NZ is fairly settled during the day – however we can expect cloudy areas and the odd shower in the west of the North Island.
The East Coast is mainly sunny, in contrast.

For the South Island, it’s sunny for most, however high cloud thickens about the upper South Island from the afternoon and into evening.
Rain moves into the Nelson & Marlborough regions later in the evening, becoming heavy overnight.
Canterbury sees rain move in overnight, reaching perhaps even North Otago by dawn on Sunday.
Nelson in particular may see heavy overnight rain cause issues, but the front is fairly quick moving – so it may have moved on before any problems can eventuate.
