A frosty start – #WeatherRisks and main centre outlook on Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s a cold start in places ahead of what should be a clear and settled day around most of the country – with a few exceptions here and there in both islands.

Queenstown, Wanaka, Gore and Alexandra all sat at temperatures well below zero before dawn, meaning there’ll be a few frosty lawns and paddocks in sheltered parts of the South Island this morning!

Other than that, Fiordland, the East Coast of the North Island and Wellington are the only real exceptions to the clear and calm rule around the country through the day.

Main Centres

Christchurch

Sunny and clear with light winds, after a fresh start in the morning – temperatures around the low double figures.

Wellington

Morning cloud and southerly breezes to start, though these should clear away towards afternoon, along with temperatures around 10 degrees.

Auckland

Sunny and clear, with gentle southerly quarter winds and temperatures in the mid teens.
