A foggy/low cloud start – The Big Picture on Friday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

On Friday we have a system of high pressure covering much of the country, as a weak area of low pressure forms over the South Island during the day.

So for the North Island it’s mostly sunny after any morning low cloud or fog breaks away, along with light winds for most and afternoon sea breezes.
North to northwesterly winds blow in Wellington for much of the day.

Over the South Island, it’s a similar story, with any morning low cloud or fog breaking to sunny weather, along with afternoon sea breezes.
For Southland and Otago, a southerly wind change moves in, bringing cloud and showers – a few of which could be heavy.
Cloud and showers may sneak into parts of South and Mid Canterbury later in the evening and overnight, as a weak southerly change pushes northwards.
