A foggy start to the week continues, before a northeasterly airflow moves onto the country, accompanied by a rain-bringing frontal system on Thursday.

Heavy rains and strong winds associated with the front will mix things up heading into the weekend – as we look forward to another cold period coming up.

Tuesday

Grey: Fog possible again in the morning and later in the evening (if conditions are right) in inland parts of the Upper North Island

 

Wednesday

Grey: Fog possible again in the morning and later in the evening (if conditions are right) in inland parts of the Upper and Central North Island – even over to the East Coast

Blue: Wet on the West Coast of the South Island

 

Thursday

Blue: Rain across much of the North Island, and the top of the South Island

Purple: Strong northeasterlies in the north of the North Island

A northeasterly airflow strengthens over the North Island, pushing rain into Northland in the morning, then the rest of the North Island during the afternoon and evening as a front sweeps southwards.
Rain may be heavy especially in the east, before then easing overnight.
That rain may continue to be heavy overnight for the Bay Of Plenty – especially in the east.
Late in the evening and overnight, rain may also become heavy about Nelson & Marlborough.
