As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.
Have questions of a commercial nature? Contact us directly here.
Thanks for your support!
Don’t forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nz website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Hi Phil, Merry Christmas to you and your team! I thoroughly enjoy your (almost) daily videos and Rural Weather etc, I know it can be tricky to be accurate all the time but you provide us with vast amounts of info which is much appreciated. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Bill.

I’m with you Bill. I love this app! I’m a weather junkie from way back. And weather is ‘a box of chocolates’ to borrow Forest’s saying. Thanks for always doing your best. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the team.

The last two days we have been forecast with heavy rain watch and thunderstorms. Not a drop of rain or anything like a thundrestorm. How can we plan when hideous reports are put out there. A disgrace.

Hi Ray,
Please watch my Friday video – I said before the downpours formed that they might not occur and explained why they were hit and miss before the watches and warnings were even issued by MetService. I went out of my way to explain the hit and miss nature and why the rain/thunderstorm icons are displayed dispite the rain/thunder not being locked in. Context is everything.
As for the MetService warnings/watches we only display them, we don’t control what the Government forecaster warns of, or when they say it.
Cheers
Phil D

Hi there, are any major storms predicted during summer like the 2023 floods in northland.

Hi there. Every summer brings the chance of major storms into NZ. Storms can’t be forecast more than 10 to 14 days out, and sometimes as little as 24 to 48 hours out. We do see some low pressure zones crossing NZ next two weeks bringing some unsettled and possibly pockets of severe weather, but no tropical storms in our part of the world yet.
