Tonight a front moves northwards over the South Island as a ridge weakens over the North Island. Friday’s front moves over the North Island on Saturday morning while southwesterlies ease in the south. A northwest airflow builds over the South Island on Sunday while a ridge is in control for the north.
Friday
Blue – Some heavy rain for the West Coast of the South Island as a front moves northwards. Areas of rain move onto southwestern regions of the North Island overnight tonight, with the chance of a heavy fall, as it starts to ease further south over the West Coast.
Purple – Gusty northerly winds through Cook Strait ease further overnight tonight.
Saturday
While a front clears the North Island on Saturday in the morning, the weather around the country is mostly risk-free. Shower or rain activity eases for most in the afternoon.
Sunday
Blue – Some rain for South Westland may be heavy at times from midday then pushing a little further northwards along the coast overnight.
