A cold start for the South Island; frosty.
In the morning on Tuesday some rain about the Taranaki region may be heavy with the chance of a thunderstorm.
Rain moves onto the West coast of the South Island overnight with a chance of heavy falls and thunderstorms.
Rain becomes heavy overnight for western regions of both Islands. Thunderstorms possible for the West Coast of the South Island with this rain.
Strong northwesterly winds through central parts of the country in the morning, then again overnight.
On Thursday we are expecting a lot of wind, which mainly builds from afternoon then becomes strong overnight for many, with gale gusts likely for most coastal regions. Winds generally from the westerly quarter.
Rain for the west of the North Island in the morning may be heavy with a thunderstorm or two, then from evening the West Coast of the South Island ramps up again with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms.
