High pressure is still over NZ but today it slides eastwards, dragging down milder northerlies. At the same time a low pressure zone is deepening over the Tasman Sea and coming our way and will likely see some wind and rain warnings issued by MetService.
Let’s get into the forecast for Wednesday to start with…
RAIN:
Most of the country is dry today but afternoon showers develop across central inland parts of the North Island today and possibly around the ranges of the South Island. These afternoon showers may become heavy. Track on rain radar today if wet weather matters to you.
WIND:
High pressure remains mostly over the country so winds are mostly light but north to north-east breezes are most common.
TEMPERATURES:
NZ is mild today with temperatures either normal or above normal for mid-November.
DAYS AHEAD
Low pressure over the Tasman Sea moves in to the South Island by Thursday morning, which means rain – with heavy falls – sets into the West Coast and maybe into Nelson too. Showers around the North Island dragged in by the northerly quarter flow. Warm and fairly dry in the east.
On Friday that low falls apart over NZ with heavy downpours crossing over the North Island from the west – this may also clip the upper South Island. Mild north to north-west winds for northern NZ but a colder southerly change comes in to the lower half of the South Island across Friday.
On Saturday that cooler southerly change heads northwards, dropping temperatures for many and driving in showers to eastern parts of NZ – and that’s ahead of yet another large high pressure zone moving in by Sunday and most of Monday.
