Wellington and Christchurch are continuing to be buffeted this afternoon with howling north to northwesterly winds.
The Capital is just nudging the 95kph mark in some big gusts under generally overcast skies with a few spots of rain about. The cricket at the Basin Reserve has been affected a little with a few light falls passing through, seeing the players off the field on a couple of occasions.
The Black Caps will be hoping for more rain to salvage a draw however Vettori and McCullum have stayed at the crease so far today without any further loss of wickets for New Zealand.
Christchurch is feeling the warmth on 25 degrees but also the gales with nor’ westers gusting above 98kph at the airport and the humidity levels have now dropped below 30%.
Mt Kaukau is still seeing the biggest wind gusts across the nation with the wind speeds topping the 135kph mark.

…interesting the strong wind gusts being recored west of us, as I doubt very much that we have had wind gusts much over 40 km/hr ,here so far; the wind is currently mod to fresh from the westerlie quarter ….also a nice line of Tcu to the far south/ southwest…still 25 deg C..
