A ridge of high pressure pushes onto the South Island today meanwhile south to southeasterly winds spread northwards over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, the odd isolated shower. Southwesterly winds. Bay Of Plenty stays mainly dry with some cloud starting to build from afternoon, late evening isolated showers move in (possibly heavy with small hail) as southwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, possibly heavy in the afternoon with small hail north of about Whanganui then clearing evening. South of Whanganui showers clear in the afternoon with sun breaking through. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13

Eastern North Island

Showers, picking up from afternoon as southwesterlies freshen with small hail possible then easing overnight.
Highs: 11-14

Wellington

Showers ease during the day, clearing evening. Cold south to southeasterly winds.
High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson

Showers, perhaps some small hail then easing and clearing in the afternoon for Marlborough. Cloud breaks later in the day with cold southerlies dying out overnight. Any early showers clear Nelson then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon with southwesterlies dying out.
Highs: 11-13

Canterbury

Morning showers about North Canterbury clear, cloud not breaking till evening. Cloud (mainly nearer the coast) breaks South Canterbury in the morning to a mostly sunny afternoon. Expect a cold frosty start about inland South Canterbury. Southwesterly winds die away.
Highs: 8-10

West Coast

Sunny for South Westland, morning cloud clears further north then sunny. Southeasterlies tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Sunny, a frosty start for inland areas. Some cloud from afternoon for Southland. Westerly winds for Southland, light winds elsewhere.
Highs: 8-12
