A low pressure system lies to the west of the country today in the Tasman Sea, surrounding this low is a huge area of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells, afternoon isolated showers possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the evening. Shower activity will be more in the east of these regions (especially Waikato and Bay Of Plenty) then clearing later in the evening. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early rain eases to showers, clearing around midday for most and some sun breaking through in the afternoon. Showers may not clear further inland about the eastern ranges till evening. Light winds tend to the westerly quarter in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island
Areas of rain or showers, dry spells too. Conditions becoming mainly dry overnight. Light winds.
Highs: 17-20

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two possible, especially inland up the Hutt Valley and towards Wairarapa in the east. Light winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
A few showers, possibly becoming heavy in the afternoon for inland areas then easing later in the evening. Easterly winds about Marlborough, northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury
Patchy rain or drizzle, easterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, showers may become heavy in the afternoon for Buller then easing later in the evening. Light winds.
Highs: 19-23

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas, chance of a shower or two with long dry periods at times. Coastal Otago has cloudy skies with drizzle patches. East to southeasterly winds tending northeast about coastal Otago.
Highs: 14-20
