A low passes over Central New Zealand today, the airflow tends southwesterly in its wake as it moves out to the east of the country.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Showers gradually ease, clearing by midday for Northland and elsewhere in the evening. Sunny areas possible at times especially in the north. Northwesterly winds tend brisk westerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Occasional showers, heavy with possible thunderstorms (especially afternoon) then clearing in the evening. Northwesterlies change westerly early afternoon.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas, a brief shower or two may spread from the west otherwise mainly dry. Late afternoon / evening showers spread into the Wairarapa and perhaps southern Hawkes Bay as northwesterly winds change southerly. These showers will possibly be heavy with a risk of thunderstorms then clearing later in the evening.
Highs: 20-22

Wellington

Rain clears in the afternoon then sunny spells break through as northerly winds change southerly.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Showers, possibly heavy with a chance of thunderstorms then easing and clearing in the evening. There may be sunny spells at times. Light winds.
Highs: 17-18

Canterbury

Some rain, easing and clearing in the afternoon although a few isolated showers may stick around inland till evening. Southwesterly winds.
High: 14

West Coast

Sunny spells with south to southwesterly winds, a few afternoon showers possible about the ranges then clearing later in the evening.
Highs: 16-20

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy, risk of a few showers mainly afternoon / evening (especially inland where some could become heavy) then clearing at night, south to southwesterly breezes.
Highs: 13-17
