A strong northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, within this flow a front moves over the South Island heading northwards reaching the lower North Island later this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy with showers about Northland from morning, elsewhere from afternoon. Northerly winds change westerly overnight.
Highs: 21-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy, a risk of drizzle from morning then the odd spot of rain possible from afternoon. Rain becoming more widespread in the evening. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud with northwesterly winds picking up in the afternoon, a few spots of rain from in the evening.
Highs: 23-25

Wellington

The odd shower, some rain in the evening. Gusty / strong northerly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy, a few areas of scattered rain especially afternoon / evening. Rain more persistent about Nelson and the Sounds. Winds gusty or strong from the north.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury

Thick high cloud, the odd spot of rain at times mostly clearing by evening. Gusty north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-22

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls, especially in the morning. Winds gusty from the north.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas in the morning, cloud thickens a little in the afternoon with the odd shower for Southland. For Otago expect showers about and west of the Queenstown area then spreading eastwards in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-21
