A low pressure system centred southeast of Otago brings a southwesterly airlow over New Zealand today. Showers for most at some point however remaining fairly dry about Marlborough and eastern parts of the North Island.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with a few sunny breaks about, westerlies in the morning then southwesterlies freshen from midday bringing a few brief patchy showers which
clear by evening.
Highs: 23-25

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells early on however becoming mostly cloudy by midday with
westerly breezes. A few showers move through in the afternoon and clear by
evening, showers will be patchy with dry spells about also.
Highs: 23-24

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds, northwesterlies in the afternoon for the
Wairarapa. About Hawkes Bay and Gisborne winds tend northeasterly after midday
then ease later in the evening.
Highs: 24-25

Western North Island

Cloudy spells with northwesterlies in the morning tending westerly after
midday, a few brief showers move through during the morning then clearing early
afternoon.
Highs: 21-23

Wellington

Early cloud breaks away to mostly sunny weather, brisk northerly
winds.
Highs: 19-20

Nelson
Mostly sunny with light winds in
the morning, afternoon west to northwest breezes.

High: 23

Marlborough

Sunny with light winds in the morning, northwesterlies freshen in the
afternoon.
Highs: 25-26

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with light winds, tending southerly near the coast. Late
afternoon or evening southwesterlies freshen bringing showers, showers turn to
rain south of around Banks Peninsula during the evening before easing overnight.
Inland parts of North Canterbury may remain fairly dry during this period with
only wind changes and periods of cloud to note.

West Coast

Cloudy periods with the odd shower, mainly from midday onwards. West to
southwest breezes.
Highs: 17-18

Coastal Otago

Mostly cloudy, the odd spot of rain possible with light winds.
Southwesterlies freshen in the afternoon with more widespread showers, some
possibly heavy with thunderstorms then easing evening.
Highs: 17-18

Central Otago

Sunny spells and thickening high cloud with light westerlies, the odd spot
of rain possible too. In the afternoon a southerly change brings showers which
clear at night.
Highs: 17-19

Southland

Showers, some may be heavy. Light northerlies at first then southwesterly
winds freshen by late morning.
High: 16
