Strong northwesterlies lie over the South Island and lower parts of the North Island tonight, expect a risk of gales about eastern regions in the South Island and Cook Strait however easing a little overnight. Conditions are dry out east for most with some high cloud, rain or showers in the west south of Taranaki.

Auckland & Northland
Mainly clear with a few clouds about, northwesterly winds. Winds light about Northland.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-10

Bay Of Plenty

Fairly clear skies although cloud may thickening up a bit overnight, northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 10

Waikato & Central North Island

Areas of cloud with northwesterly winds. Cloud thickening up about the
Central North Island later with the chance of a light shower overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Eastern North Island

Mainly clear skies with high cloud thickening later this evening, breezy
northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Taranaki

Mostly cloudy with a few late showers moving in, breezy
northwesterlies.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Western North Island

Areas of cloud thicken this evening, northwesterly winds. The odd light
shower about Kapiti overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 11

Wellington

Cloudy with strong northwesterlies, a risk of gales. The odd spot of rain
possible.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Nelson

Cloudy with a few showers, mainly clearing around midnight. Gusty
northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8

Marlborough

Mostly cloudy, a few spots of rain this evening with showers about the
Sounds. Clearing overnight for most, gusty northwesterlies.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8

Canterbury

Cloudy areas with gusty northwesterlies, strong inland with a risk of
gales. Some rain spreads from the west mainly near the foothills although a few
spits may reach the coast. Winds ease overnight with high cloud decreasing and
any rain clearing.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls and thunderstorms then easing overnight to the odd
shower, rain about Fiordland remains fairly persistent however. Gusty
northwesterlies ease overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 7

Coastal Otago

A few spots of rain possible then high cloud thinning out this evening.
Brisk north to northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Low: 8

Central Otago

Rain, heavy at times about the Southern Lakes area and west of there then
easing tonight. Further east skies are mainly dry although there may be some
rain spreading from the west at times this evening then clearing by midnight.
Gusty northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-4

Southland

Cloudy with brisk west to northwest winds, the odd shower then rain towards
dawn.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8
