The airflow over New Zealand changes to the west this evening, expect heavy showers in many areas to gradually ease by midnight with skies clearing up overnight for some.

Bay Of Islands
Isolated showers, some possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing
later this evening. Westerly breezes.
Tonight’s Lows: 13

Auckland & Northland

Isolated showers (especially in the east), some possibly heavy with
thunderstorms then clearing later this evening. Westerly breezes.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-15

Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Isolated showers, some possibly heavy with thunderstorms then easing later
this evening as northwesterlies change westerly. Showers clear overnight. Some
areas may see long dry spells this evening, and some totally dry alltogether, it
depends where shower cells track exactly.

Central North Island, Lake
Taupo

Cloudy areas with northwesterly winds, showers later this evening, possibly
heavy with thunderstorms then clearing around midnight as winds change
westerly.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-13

Eastern North Island

Cloud thickens about the Wairarapa with some rain there late afternoon /
evening for a time. Further north high cloud thickens, a few showers may pass
through for a time later this evening then clearing. Skies clearing up overnight
for most, northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 13-14

Western North Island

Rain, heavy with thunderstorms for some then easing about Taranaki this
evening, rain easing later this evening elsewhere to the odd shower.
Northwesterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Wellington

Rain clearing this evening, clear spells then develop. Brisk
northerlies.
Tonight’s Low: 15

Nelson & Kateriteri

Showers, heavy at times then clearing this evening with clear spells
developing. Northerlies tend westerly.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Marlborough

Cloudy with scattered rain clearing later this evening, northwesterlies
ease overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Canterbury

Cloud gradually breaking away this evening. Northwesterlies ease overnight.
Winds change southerly about South and Mid Canterbury this evening near the
coast bringing showers, some possibly heavy with thunderstorms and hail.
Southerlies push along the coast reaching Banks Peninsula later this evening
however only a few showers are likely past about the Ashburton area then
clearing by midnight.

West Coast

Showers, some heavy with thunderstorms then easing this evening, westerly
winds.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Coastal Otago

Showers, some may be heavy then clearing this evening. Light winds tend
southwesterly this evening.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11

Central Otago

Occasional showers with westerly breezes, showers more likely in the west
with longer dry spells in the east.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Southland

Fairly cloudy with west to northwest breezes, the odd shower at
times.
Tonight’s Low: 10
