Weather Video: Low pressure arrives in NZ, lasts until Sunday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Downpours in the north of New Zealand today are the beginning of several ‘messy’ days of weather with a weak but large area of low pressure moving in.

Weak + large usually means we have patchy conditions with wet weather broken up by lots of dry areas.

As we head into Thursday and Friday rain will become more focused in central and eastern areas of the country, with cooler south east winds in the South Island and milder, lighter, winds in northern New Zealand.

Through the weekend the low crosses the North Island while another low lies just east of the South Island being pushed away slowly by an incoming southern high pressure system.
