Warm for most, cool in Canterbury

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Rain clouds are building out in the Tasman Sea today with mild weather continuing ahead of it.  In the latest rain radar images around the upper North Island rain is now noticeable well off shore, but still isn’t predicted to arrive until after dark for most regions.

Far west places such as the West Coast, Taranaki and Northland may receive showers before this evening.

It’s warm across the top half of the North Island with the majority of centres around 16 degrees, it’s 17 in Whangaparaoa, Paeroa and Gisborne.  Further south and the lower North Island is mostly around 15 with 16 in Wanganui.

In the South Island the mild start hasn’t really progressed due to cloud cover.  Many parts of Canterbury are still in the late single digits however the mild weather has moved into Marlborough where it’s 15.  Christchurch and Kaikoura have 8.   Strong westerlies are keeping temperatures around 11 for the West Coast and Southland.
