This year a bitterly cold southerly outbreak swept its way over the country during the middle of August.
Snow fell to sea level in numerous places and it was the snowiest outbreak nationally since 1939.
Many centres saw the heaviest snow in decades and Auckland also saw the odd flurry with a lively discussion whether it was sleet or snow but at the end of the day Aucklanders did experience snow.
We’ve included a video clip courtesy of adventians and you’ll see the neighbours coming together to witness a once in a lifetime event in the northern city.

The stuff we got “at the end of the day” using its true meaning occured around 5pm as it gets dark soon after was grauple,it was very heavy here but some said they experienced flurries ie on hills in the city earlier that day (15th) as they swirled around in true snow fashion.
