VIDEO: Wintry blast eases on Wednesday, windier westerlies return Thursday

Snow moves into the ranges near Gisborne tonight and winds in Auckland ease back too as the main wintry blast passes its peak and fades further on Wednesday.

It will be a cold night tonight with temperatures closer to 0 degrees over a large portion of NZ.

By Thursday windier westerlies cover NZ, then those winds ease for many going into Friday and the weekend (perhaps not the lower South Island though). 

Milder weather is forecast this weekend in many places.
