VIDEO: Windy westerlies, heavy West Coast rain, hot dry east

More spring-like windy westerlies are about to surge over the country, bringing summer heat to the east (especially the North Island and eastern areas), heavy West Coast rain and gales in the usual places.

Storms near southern NZ are fuelling this weather, coupled with high pressure zones around the Tasman Sea and upper North Island.

Severe weather is likely on Sunday as storms near Stewart Island track by.

Despite the heavy rain coming for the West Coast (and some spillover into Southland and Otago) areas that are already dry are likely to remain dry/drier in the days ahead.

We have your New Zealand weather forecast through to Tuesday.
