The storm is still intensifying but on Thursday drifts a little further away from NZ meaning winds and rain do ease back for a time for those who have it.

On Friday and this weekend the low weakens a lot but also moves in and makes landfall around the lower South Island later on Sunday – bringing a burst of wind and rain to both islands for the end of the week and start of next week.
