VIDEO: Short lived wintry snap on Tuesday – then back to high pressure

Snow on the ranges, gale force winds and squally showers are in the forecast for Tuesday as an Autumn blast comes through giving parts of the South Island a taste of winter.

The cold blast hit Tasmania over the weekend with some snow on the summits. This cold blast reaches NZ on Tuesday and clears away on Wednesday.

High pressure returns behind it – but some easterlies are in the weekend forecast bringing some northern showers.
