Bursts of damaging gales are in the forecast for NZ this week ahead of some settled weather for Labour Weekend itself.
Severe NW gales are expected around NZ this week – we break down where and when.
As we head into the long weekend there will be some large dry and fairly calm areas – but in true long weekend style for NZ there may be some severe weather, especially going into Labour Day Monday in the South Island.

Why don’t you tell us that east coast North Island is in for a drought ?

Hi Al. I do. In fact we monitor it regularly. You’ll find more information in our monthly ClimateWatch Monthly Outlooks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sha2cnfhME
You can also follow my weekly columns at Farmers Weekly: https://www.farmersweekly.co.nz/?s=philip+duncan – the column next week is focused on how dry things are getting, and how fast this is happening.
While conditions are drier than usual we’re still a long way off from any drought being announced – but every week I’ve been talking about how the dry is expanding and that it will become drier before it gets wetter.
Cheers
