Severe weather risks increase this weekend and early next week around New Zealand as a mild subtropical and wet and windy system this weekend gives way to a polar change for the south on Monday.
Snow to low levels is likely for a time, but totals don’t look excessive for most.
By Tuesday that colder air reaches the North Island but, incredibly, by Wednesday next week we’re back to subtropical nor’westers returning to the lower South Island. We track what is going on.
This weekend it’s possible we may do another video update, but it’s not planned at this stage. We’ll continue to monitor the severe weather risks and if they escalate further we’ll publish an additional video. Otherwise we’ll see you again on Monday. Have a great weekend!
