High pressure is returning to the NZ area as the tropical South Pacific is smothered in low pressure producing widespread rain and the chance of a tropical cyclone this week around Tonga and Niue.
We will have more details on Thursday about the cyclone risk – but Niue and Tonga look most exposed.
NZ has a cold front arriving in the south on Thursday, weakening on Friday as it moves northwards – and by this weekend and early next week NZ has high pressure over us bringing mostly dry weather.

Do you think we might get a cyclone our way?

Hi Millsy, not in the next 7 days, but there’s a lot of energy north of NZ that might spawn a cyclone (or two) over the coming 15 days. It’s messy up there but there’s a lot of high pressure still to pass over NZ which keeps us protected from them for now.
