Our weekday weather videos are back for 2023! In today’s update we’re monitoring the next tropical cyclone likely to form around New Caledonia and Vanuatu today – and the likely tracking.
For now, this system doesn’t pose the same threat to New Zealand as Cyclone Hale did – but it is worth monitoring closely as it may track near.
Behind this low are more tropical lows forming – but NZ has a lot of high pressure over the rest of January which should see many places dry, or drier than usual.
La Nina is still with us – but it’s fading very slowly. It may linger on for the rest of this month but is expected to fade to neutral soon.
