Low pressure controls the Tasman Sea region this week and that means some rain and shower activity into NZ. But the large size of this low pressure zone means rain bands and showers are broken up with large dry areas. Put short, the second week of the school holidays is messier weatherwise than the first week was, but despite the wetter weather there will still be large dry and calm zones too.
Foggy areas are also likely.
Milder airflows (for this time of year) will also be at play, particularly the North Island.
Messy systems like this can sometimes look worse than they are – but rain and showers will be in the mix, especially for the North Island. Driest weather will remain in the lower South Island.
Our weekday weather videos (out around lunchtime) will make more sense of what is happening – and if there are any severe weather risks over the next 7 days.
