NZ’s humid sub-tropical airflow may be with us until next week but Australia’s cold change should sweep away our humidity by the middle to later part of next week.
In today’s video we show you the stubborn, powerful, high pressure zone east of us, bringing all the record breaking May sub-tropical warmth to New Zealand, while the next big high pressure zone coming into Australia is doing the opposite – ushering in a colder southerly which will make it all the way up to the Gold Coast and Brisbane and beyond by early next week.
This cold change should reach thew South Island by Wednesday – then fall apart over the North Island on Thursday and Friday next week… and that’s all ahead of the next enormous high pressure zone, possibly reaching NZ by next weekend.

Philip, thank you so so much for your work. Not sure how I’d cope without it. 😅 It is currently bucketing down in Kerikeri (05-May Noon). Sheets of rain, straight down. No wind. I will be so glad when we get rid of this “atmospheric river”!

Hi Nancy, thank you for the very kind message – and the update from Kerikeri. Hopefully a big improvement by the end of next week and next weekend for you!
Cheers, Phil 🙂

Wonder how ‘climate experts’ are going to explain freezing snow & ice in Aus while NZ receives humid rain all on the same day. Let me guess: it’s ‘complex’. Those of us not in the Cult of Climate Cacology simply call it what it is – weather. Keep up the good work.
