A low will move over the North Island on Saturday and fall apart – bringing patchy rain and showers across the island, in particular the central and top part of the North Island from the west.
The South Island has a weak cold front on Friday bringing a little wet weather to the south. Next week, however, kicks off with high pressure – but there’s something happening in Australia which may come our way next week (not yet locked in).

Hello Phil, I’m in the Ag scene and was visiting growers in Hawke’s bay this week, they are all talking about quite a serious autumn drought here, bad news for sheep & beef farmers who are already suffering with low returns and high costs, what’s the next 2 months outlook for Hawkes bay?

Hi Scott, sorry to hear that – and we’ve also been hearing this from Hawke’s Bay growers and farmers. With El Nino now gone we’re hoping the weather pattern will shift to see an increase in eastern wet weather. We have a few wet days in the next 10. It won’t be an immediate fix but we’re hopeful some wet weather will tick up in the next few weeks despite some long dry stretches still in the mix. Our next ClimateWatch update will be out in a week and a half (May 1) and we’ll be focusing much more on this then.
Cheers
Phil D
