An anticyclone in the Tasman Sea pushes a little closer to New Zealand today meaning slightly more settled weather. Still, temperatures will be fairly cool in the far south of the country and the general windflow will still be from the south or southwest.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells with brisk southwesterlies, perhaps strong even for a time in the afternoon for Auckland. Winds ease later in the evening. For Northland there is the chance of a clearing morning shower or two.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny with southwesterly breezes, brisk for a time in the afternoon
then easing again later in the evening.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with westerly winds at first, winds becoming light in the
afternoon then tending easterly by evening.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island

Sunny spells with westerly breezes. Brisk southwesterlies about northern
Taranaki with mostly sunny weather, winds easing there overnight.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Mostly sunny with westerly breezes, winds become light in the afternoon
perhaps tending southeasterly.
Highs: 19-20

Nelson

Mostly sunny with west to southwest breezes.
Highs: 21-22

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with westerly breezes, winds may tend easterly right on the
coast in the afternoon.
Highs: 21- 23

Canterbury

Mostly sunny in the morning with light winds, southerlies around midday
bring some cloud and the chance of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry.
Southerlies die out later in the evening.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast

Cloudy spells with the odd shower, easing during the afternoon and mostly
clearing by evening however the odd one may persist about Buller. Cool
southwesterly breezes.
High: 17

Coastal Otago

A few morning showers, mainly south of about Dunedin clearing. Sunny spells
otherwise with strong southwesterly winds easing in the evening and dying out
around midnight.
High: 14-15

Central Otago

Morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny by midday, southwesterly
winds die out in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Southland

Showers ease clearing around midday, sunny spells increase from afternoon.
Brisk southwesterly winds die out in the evening.
Highs: 13-14
