A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island early today then the North Island in the afternoon and evening, meanwhile another cold front lands onto the lower South Island this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells with the chance of a shower or two, late afternoon / evening showers push in from the west with a bit more intensity, perhaps a heavy fall or two then easing. Conditions dry out for a time later on / overnight. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloud thickens in the morning, showers from midday (possibly heavy for a time) then easing in the evening. Overnight rain moves through with the chance of a further heavy fall as gusty northwesterly winds change westerly.
Highs: 18-21

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, mid afternoon a few spots of rain spread from the west into Wairarapa, clearing by evening. This scattered rain spreads over into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-25

Wellington
Some sun possible first thing in the morning then cloud thickens, showers move through around midday then clear mid afternoon. Some sun possible later in the day for a time then overnight some further rain moves through. Winds strong from the northwest gusting to gale at times.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud thickens then a few spots of rain spread from the west during the morning, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon then overnight a few further spots of rain are possible. Breezy northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-22

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud, early heavy rain about the high country eases to a few showers. Overnight a southwest change may bring some rain, possibly heavy with hail especially near the coast.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Early heavy rain eases to showers then during the morning showers, heavy at times with thunderstorms and hail develop about South Westland, perhaps parts of North Westland afternoon onwards. Westerly winds change southwest later in the day.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy, showers at times especially in the afternoon where some may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail. Coastal Otago is looking drier with sunnier skies, still the chance of a shower in the afternoon however spreading from the west. Gusty west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-16
