A southwesterly airflow weakens over New Zealand today with a series of fronts brushing eastern coastal areas, easing and moving northwards during the day.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, there is the chance of a brief light shower or two, mainly this morning, they could occur anywhere but the preference is for areas in the west. Drying out more from afternoon. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 24-26
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A few morning showers then sunny areas increase with breezy westerlies changing southeasterly during the evening.
Highs: 20-23
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, west to northwesterly winds change southeast about the Wairarapa early afternoon bringing cloud and a risk of drizzle. Cloud and drizzle moving further north late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 24-28
Wellington
Mostly sunny, southerlies develop around midday bringing in some cloud and the risk of a shower but still areas of sun around.
High: 20-21
Marlborough & Nelson
A mostly sunny morning then south to southeasterly winds pick up from afternoon bringing increasing cloud and the risk of some late drizzle. Nelson doesn’t see cloud or ESE winds till evening.
Highs: 22-24
Canterbury
May be a morning shower or drizzle patch otherwise expect a mostly cloudy day with southerlies easing in the evening.
Highs: 16-18
West Coast
Sunny areas increase from morning about South Westland, morning showers clear further north then sunny areas increase from afternoon. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18
Southland & Otago
A few morning showers then some sun gradually breaks through from afternoon (more so inland), fresh southwesterlies gusty about coastal areas eases later in the day.
Highs: 14-19
