A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front within this flow pushes northwards over the South Island during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas, high cloud increases from afternoon for most of these regions. Skies becoming a little cloudier during the morning about the Waikato with the risk of an overnight shower. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the risk of a shower, mainly later in the day. West to northwesterly winds, breezy for coastal areas.
Highs: 11-16

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, afternoon northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Wellington

Mostly cloudy, chance of an afternoon shower otherwise mainly dry. Gusty northwesterly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Plenty of high cloud, chance spot of rain late afternoon otherwise mainly dry. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some high cloud, light northwesterly winds change southerly for a brief time in the evening. Overnight cloud thickens with a shower or two.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast

Rain about South Westland, a few showers further north. Rain pushes into North Westland during the morning then easing in the afternoon as northerlies change southwest.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago

A westerly change in the morning about Southland brings cloudy periods and the odd shower. Otago sees a mix of sun and cloud as light northerlies change southwest in the afternoon. Chance of an evening shower.
Highs: 13-14
