A northwesterly airflow gradually strengthens over the South Island and lower North Island today while a ridge sits over the upper North Island. A front moves onto the lower South Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, west to southwesterly winds. Afternoon northeasterlies about the Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny, high cloud increases from late afternoon or evening. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island

Sunny with some high cloud from late afternoon, east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 23-24

Wellington

Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, northerly winds become breezy later on.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson

Mainly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 22-25

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing from afternoon, easterly winds freshen near the coast while winds tend northerly inland.
Highs: 21-24

West Coast

Drizzle patches about Fiordland turning to rain in the evening. Drizzle spreads into North Westland later in the evening then rain moves in overnight. North to northwesterly winds increase.
Highs: 17-21

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, a few spots of rain possible later in the evening, rain more likely overnight. Northwesterly winds freshen inland, northeasterlies near the coast.
Highs: 20-25
