A front moving in from the Tasman Sea crosses over the South Island during the day then moves onto the west of the North Island later in the evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, the odd shower possible from afternoon then expect some overnight patchy rain. Northwesterly winds gradually increasing tending more northerly by evening.
Highs: 17-19
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, overnight rain moves in heavy about Taranaki. Northwesterly winds gradually increasing tending more northerly by evening.
Highs: 15-17
 
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, high cloud thickens in the evening then expect overnight spots of rain. Light winds for most however afternoon easterlies expected about coastal Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 16-18
 
Wellington
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, showers later in the evening or overnight. Increasing northerly winds.
High: 15
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, showers move into Nelson during the evening then a few spots spread into Marlborough later in the evening / overnight. Freshening north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17
 
Canterbury
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, a few spots of rain possible in the evening. Overnight more persistent rain moves in with a southerly change. Winds during the day are from the north or northeast.
Highs: 15-17
 
West Coast
Cloudy with the odd shower, heavy rain moves into Fiordland during the morning then heads northwards in the afternoon. Rain eases later in the evening or overnight as breezy northeasterly winds change southeast.
Highs: 12-13
 
Southland & Otago
A chance of morning sun however expect thickening high cloud, a few spits from afternoon then turning to rain for a time in the evening with the chance of a heavy fall before clearing overnight. Northerlies tend westerly after midday then expect light variable winds by evening.
