A strong northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island today while a ridge slowly loses its grip over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells, cloud thickens in the evening. There may be an isolated shower in the afternoon mainly about the Waikato, southern Auckland and perhaps inland Bay Of Plenty any of which ease then clear in the evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-21
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny spells and some cloud, high cloud starts to thicken up from afternoon. Low risk of a shower from afternoon. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-20
 
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with northerly winds, tending northwest in the afternoon about the Wairarapa. The Wairarapa can expect some high cloud which spreads northwards in the evening.
Highs: 20-22
 
Wellington
Mostly cloudy with brisk north to northwesterly winds, chance of a late shower.
High: 16
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Plenty of high cloud, there may be some sun about at times. North to northwesterly winds pick up in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-20
 
Canterbury
Thick high cloud with north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20
 
West Coast
Rain about South Westland with heavy falls, just the odd shower further north. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15
 
Southland & Otago
Thick high cloud, a few areas of rain develop about Southland around midday then pushing into Otago late afternoon or evening. North to northwesterly winds ease in the afternoon perhaps tending southerly for coastal Otago.
