A ridge lies over the North Island today slowly slipping away to the northeast while a northwesterly airflow builds over the rest of the country.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud with light north to northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny areas and some high cloud, light winds tend north to northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-20

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud with the chance of a shower then breaking to mostly sunny weather, light winds tend northeasterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds, picking up towards evening.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and some increasing high cloud, light winds tend north to northwesterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-20

Canterbury

Plenty of high cloud, a few spots of rain may spread from the west during the afternoon. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-21

West Coast

Cloudy with showers, rain moves into South Westland during the afternoon becoming heavy overnight. Northeasterly winds pick up from afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago

Showers, clearing overnight. Coastal Otago may be dry during the morning. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-17
