A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today and within this flow a weakening front lies across the top of the South Island and lower North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas for most, the Bay Of Plenty is fairly cloudy. Light north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with a few showers about, mainly in the morning with dry spells increasing in the afternoon. The Central North Island is fairly dry but still quite cloudy. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Eastern North Island

Plenty of high cloud, a few spots of rain move through the Waiarapa in the morning then clearing away. Further north it is mainly dry, however there may be an afternoon spot of rain about the Hawkes Bay. Warm northwesterly breezes.
Highs: 24-26

Wellington
Cloudy with the odd shower, brisk to strong northwesterly winds.

High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson

A few early morning showers clear then cloud breaks to sunny areas by midday, gusty northwesterly winds ease from afternoon. The northwest Nelson ranges area may see showers for much of the day.
Highs: 20-23

Canterbury

Mainly sunny with light winds, afternoon east to northeast winds nearer the coast.
High: 20

West Coast

Sunny areas with light winds about North Westland. South Westland is fairly cloudy and Fiordland sees showers with northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago

Mainly sunny with northwesterly breezes, winds tend light northeasterly near coastal Otago.
Highs: 17-19
