A front moves northwards over the South Island from morning reaching the North Island by evening, west to northwesterly winds precede the front then changing southwest in-behind.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas with increasing west to northwesterly winds, evening showers or perhaps some rain. Winds change southwesterly later in the evening or overnight with areas of precipitation clearing.
Highs: 19-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain moves in mid to late afternoon with gusty northwesterly winds. Rain clears in the evening as a southerly change moves through.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, some rain moves through in the evening as gusty northwesterly winds change southerly. Rain clears overnight.
Highs: 23-24

Wellington

Cloudy with strong to gale northerly winds, the odd shower then some afternoon rain on a southerly wind change which clears later in the evening.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud with gusty northwesterly winds, a period of rain in the afternoon as winds change southerly. Rain clears evening.
High: 17-21

Canterbury

Rain moves in during the morning, easing to showers in the afternoon which clear by evening. Southwesterly winds.
High: 12

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls then clears in the afternoon as northerly winds change southwest. Cloud may break to a few sunny areas.
High: 16

Southland & Otago

Early rain eases to the odd shower, cloudy areas for much of the day about Southland but Otago sees areas of sun in the afternoon. Gusty west to southwesterly winds ease evening.
Highs: 12-15
