A breezy northeasterly airflow lies over the country today, meanwhile a front is closing in from in the Tasman Sea bringing rain to the West Coast of the South Island from this afternoon and to Northland by evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with rain moving into Northland by evening and reaching Auckland overnight, there may be a light shower or drizzle patch elsewhere during the day. Patchy drizzle possible about the Bay Of Plenty from morning. Breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloud increasing from morning then expect some overnight patchy rain. East to northeasterly winds brisk about some coastal areas.
Highs: 10-14

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing from afternoon, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington

Some morning sun but expect cloud to increase, northeasterly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy about Nelson with northeasterly winds, drizzle at times then rain later in the evening or overnight becoming heavy for a time. Marlborough remains fairly dry with thickening high cloud although expect some rain overnight with heavy falls possible especially about the Sounds.
Highs: 12-13

Canterbury

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, northeasterly winds breezy at times about the coast. Chance spot of rain overnight mainly inland.
High: 12

West Coast

Cloudy with breezy northeasterly winds, patchy drizzle by midday for most. Rain moves into South Westland during the afternoon then further north in the evening.
High: 11

Southland & Otago

Thick high cloud with northeasterly winds, high cloud clears away overnight.
Highs: 9-10
