Two high pressure systems are centred either side of the country today while a narrow trough of low pressure lies over New Zealand. The weather is generally calm for most with plenty of cloud about, clearing for some this afternoon. North and east of Lake Taupo isolated showers late afternoon / evening could become heavy with thunderstorms.

Northland
Morning cloud with the chance of a light shower, mainly in the west. Sunny areas then develop with light southerlies. A sea breeze develops along the east coast in the afternoon. Late afternoon / evening there may be an isolated shower.

Auckland

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, southwesterly breezes. Warmer out
east.
Highs: 26-27

Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, light southwesterlies this morning
tend northerly by midday. Isolated showers develop late afternoon / evening
(especially inland) possibly heavy with thunderstorms.
Highs: 25-27

Waikato

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, west to southwest winds. Late
afternoon / evening isolated showers are possible. Showers more likely about
eastern parts of the region where one or two could be heavy.
Highs: 28-29

Central North Island

Any morning cloud breaking to sunny areas, light winds. Late afternoon /
evening isolated showers develop possibly heavy with thunderstorms. Showers more
likely east and north of the Lake Taupo area.
Highs: 27-28

Eastern North Island
Any
morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, east to northeast winds. Late afternoon /
evening there may be an isolated shower or two. Isolated showers more likely
about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne where a heavy fall and thunderstorm
is even possible.

Western North Island

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, light winds tend westerly this
afternoon.
Highs: 27-28

Wellington

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, light southeasterlies tend northerly
by midday.
High: 22

Nelson

Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, light winds this morning
then tending northerly by midday. Warmer temperatures inland.
Highs: 23-26

Marlborough

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, east to northeast winds. Overnight
cloud thickens and some drizzle may move in.
Highs: 25-26

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to a few sunny areas, easterly winds. Cloud thickens
again this evening then later on drizzle moves in.
Highs: 22-23

West Coast

Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, west to southwest
winds.
Highs: 19-21

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas and some cloud, cloud thickening from afternoon with
southwesterly winds. Chance of a light evening shower.
High: 20

Central Otago

Mostly sunny with south to southwesterly winds, some evening high
cloud.
Highs: 25-26

Southland

Cloudy areas and a few sunny spells (sunny areas more frequent inland),
chance of a brief shower or two this morning otherwise dry. Southwesterly
winds.
High: 18-20
