A northwesterly airflow increases over the country today with a front moving onto the lower South Island this afternoon / evening.

Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy with any early drizzle clearing, a few afternoon sunny spells possible. Light northerlies tend more westerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 21-23

Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy, a drizzle patch or two mainly morning. Northerlies.
High: 21

Waikato & Central North Island

Mostly cloudy with light northwesterly winds, patchy drizzle clears by
midday.
Highs: 21-22

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with light northeasterlies, some high cloud. Northwesterly
winds may pick up about the Wairarapa later in the day.
Highs: 22-23

Taranaki

Periods of cloud with northwesterly winds, gradaully picking up from
afternoon. Cloud thickens overnight.
High: 19

Western North Island

Sunny spells with northwesterly winds tending westerly around middy and
increasing, cloud thickens later on.
High: 23

Wellington

Sunny areas and increasing cloud with north to northwesterly winds
building.
High: 18

Nelson

Mostly sunny with northerly winds picking up from midday, areas of cloud
gradually increase from afternoon also. Rain develops overnight.
High: 23

Marlborough

Sunny with some increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds build during the
day too. Later in the evening / overnight a few spots of rain are
possible.
Highs: 27-28

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some increasing high cloud, northwesteriles. Overnight
southerlies bring rain.
High: 27

West Coast

Cloudy with rain about South Westland spreading into North Westland late
afternoon, northerly winds increase then ease later on in the day.
Highs: 16-17

Coastal Otago

Morning spots of rain clear then mostly sunny with northerlies, a late
evening southerly change brings showers.
High: 23

Central Otago

Thick high cloud, morning spells of rain clear retreating to west of the
Southern Lakes area. Northwesterly winds. Overnight winds change southerly with
showers.
High: 20

Southland

Morning spells of rain clear then expect sunny areas with northerlies
tending northwest and picking up, later in the evening winds change southerly
with showers.
High: 22
