A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, a front moves over the North Island while about the lower South Island another front starts to march north from afternoon and evening.

Auckland & Northland
Morning sunny spells with northwesterly winds, patchy showers develop in the afternoon then clear in the evening with a westerly change. Showers may be heavy in isolated areas during the afternoon with a risk of thunderstorms. Showers move in again overnight.
Highs: 16-17

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and periods of cloud, a few showers moving through in the
afternoon then clearing in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
High: 15

Waikato & Central North Island

Morning sunny spells, showers move in during the afternoon possibly heavy
for a time (low risk of thunderstorms about the Waikato) then clearing in the
evening as northwesterlies change westerly. Showers move in again
overnight.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, some evening high cloud with a brief
spot of rain possible then clearing.
Highs: 17-18

Taranaki

Showers, heavy for a time late morning and around midday with the risk of
thunderstorms then easing and clearing late afternoon. Showers move in again
overnight. Northwesterlies change westerly PM.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island

Cloudy periods with the odd shower, showers briefly heavy around midday
then easing and clearing by late afternoon. Showers move in again overnight.
West to northwest winds.
High: 14

Wellington

Showers in the morning then clearing midday with sunny spells increasing,
brisk northwesterlies. Overnight further showers move in.
Highs: 13-14

Nelson

Risk of an early shower otherwise mostly sunny weather with west to
northwest winds. Overnight a few further showers move through.
Highs: 13-14

Marlborough

Sunny areas and some high cloud, breezy northwesterlies ease in the
afternoon.
Highs: 15-16

Canterbury

Sunny with some high cloud, light winds.
High: 14

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, long dry spells too. Showers becoming
heavy later in the evening as west to southwest winds freshen. Showers later in
the evening may contain thunderstorms and hail.
High: 11

Coastal Otago

Mostly sunny with westerly winds easing away in the morning, light
northeasterlies from midday. Overnight southwesterlies freshen bringing heavy
showers and hail. Snow lowering to 700m.
High: 10

Central Otago

Sunny areas and light winds, evening southwesterlies develop bringing heavy
showers and hail. Snow lowering to 500m overnight.
Highs: 8-9

Southland

Sunny areas and light winds, mid to late afternoon southwesterlies develop
bringing heavy showers and hail. Snow lowering to 500m overnight.
Highs: 8-9
