A ridge lies over the upper North Island while a northwesterly airflow lies over the rest of the country, rain along the West Coast of the South Island and mainly dry elsewhere. A few light showers are possible about Northland and Auckland this morning however.

Northland
Sunny spells with light southwesterlies, cloud a little more frequent in the west with the chance of a morning shower then clearing.
Highs: 18-20

Auckland

Cloudy spells and a few sunny areas with light southwesterlies, low risk of
a light morning shower mainly in the west.
High: 18

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells with west to southwest winds, there could be some morning low
cloud or fog about inland areas. The Bay Of Plenty is likely to have a mostly
sunny day.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds, northwesterlies freshening in the afternoon about
the Wairarapa and southern Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island

Cloudy periods with northwesterly winds (winds tend more westerly about
Taranaki), chance of an early light shower then clearing.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Sunny spells with northerly winds becoming brisk from afternoon. Cloud
thickening in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Nelson

Mostly sunny with a few areas of high cloud, light winds in the morning
tend northwest in the afternoon.
High: 18

Marlborough

Mainly sunny weather with light winds at first then afternoon northwest
breezes.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury

Sunny spells with areas of high cloud. Northwesterly winds, a little gusty
at times inland.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast

Cloudy with rain, heavy in the morning then easing afternoon. Rain picks up
again from evening. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 15-16

Coastal Otago

Plenty of high cloud with northwesterly winds. Winds change southwest mid
to late afternoon then easing evening. A few showers Dunedin southwards from
evening.
High: 17

Central Otago

Plenty of high cloud, rain at times in western parts of the district
(mainly west of the Southern Lakes area). West to northwest winds.
Highs: 15-16

Southland

Cloudy with spots of rain, more persistent from midday. Northwesterlies
change southwest in the afternoon then ease evening.
Highs: 15-16
