The southeasterly airflow over the country ramps up today about central areas. This means strong winds anywhere from coastal Marlborough, through Cook Strait and coastal parts of the lower North Island. Expect rain or drizzle for many eastern regions today with heavy falls possible about the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay.

Sunny spells and periods of cloud, light southwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-24

Auckland

Sunny areas and high cloud, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-24

Bay Of Plenty

Plenty of high cloud with a few sunny areas, late afternoon / early evening
isolated showers (especially in the west of the district) then clearing.
Afternoon northerlies.
High: 24

Waikato & Central North Island

Plenty of high cloud and a few sunny areas, southerly winds. There may be a
few isolated afternoon showers about the Waikato then clearing in the
evening.
Highs: 20-25

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with periods of rain (rain may be heavy about Hawkes Bay and
northern Wairarapa), south to southeasterly winds. Wind strong about the
Wairarapa.
Highs: 17-21

Western North Island

Cloudy with brief rain at times, brisk to strong southeasterly winds. About
Taranaki any early rain clears then expect sunny areas and high cloud with
strong southeasterly winds, winds strongest about the south Taranaki
coastline.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Periods of rain with strong southerly winds.
High: 16

Nelson

Cloudy with brief rain at times, southerly quarter winds.
High: 20

Marlborough

Cloudy with periods of rain, easing to drizzle at times. Gusty
southeasterly winds strong about the coast.
High: 17

Canterbury

Periods of rain ease to drizzle patches late afternoon or evening, drizzle
may clear about South Canterbury during the morning. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast

Mostly sunny with southeasterly winds, some high cloud hangs about north of
Hokitika but slowly breaks away during the day.
Highs: 19-21

Coastal Otago

Morning drizzle clears, remaining mostly cloudy although there may be a few
afternoon sunny spells. Breezy easterlies.
Highs: 13-14

Central Otago

Morning cloud clears to become mostly sunny by midday, light east to
northeast winds.
Highs: 17-18

Southland

Any early showers clearing then sunny spells increase, mostly sunny from
midday onwards. Easterly winds.
High: 16
