A front weakens over the South Island today, while over the North Island there is a humid easterly quarter wind flow due to a tropical low north of the country.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with the odd drizzle patch about Coromandel, northern parts of Auckland and Northland (especially in the east). Winds breezy and humid from the east. This afternoon sunny spells break through for many although cloud thickens again this evening.

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy periods to start today with east to northeast breezes, drizzle
patches about the Bay Of Plenty clear. Sunny spells in the afternoon especially
about the Waikato and Central North Island with warm temperatures.
Highs: 22-27

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, northeasterly breezes. Gisborne sees
drizzle patches in the morning clearing by midday with skies a little cloudier
there in the afternoon.
Highs: 24-26

Taranaki

Sunny spells with northerlies tending easterly or southeasterly later in
the day.
Highs: 23-25

Western North Island

Cloudy areas in the morning then sunny spells break through in the
afternoon, light winds tend southerly after midday.
Highs: 25-27

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with northerlies, cloud starts to break away late afternoon
or evening.
Highs: 21-22

Nelson

Mostly cloudy with the odd spot of rain or a light drizzle patch possible,
mainly in the morning. Sunny spells break through late afternoon or evening.
Northerly winds.
Highs: 22-23

Marlborough

Thick high cloud, decreasing late afternoon or evening with sunny areas
increasing. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 27-28

Canterbury

Thick high cloud in the morning with a few spots of rain possible. Skies
clearing up in the afternoon and becoming mostly sunny with northerlies. Later
in the evening winds swing round to the southwest.
Highs: 27-31

West Coast

Rain eases during the afternoon with northerly winds dropping away as the
day goes on. Rain clears mostly in the evening although the odd spit may
remain.
Highs: 18-20

Coastal Otago

Early high cloud clears to mostly sunny weather, light winds. A change to
southwesterlies by midday brings further cloudy areas with sunny spells now and
then.
High: 22

Central Otago

Mostly sunny at first with light northerlies, winds change southwest by
midday a mix of sunny spells and some cloud.
Highs: 21-23

Southland

Mostly cloudy with west to southwest breezes developing in the morning, the
odd spit or shower at times with long dry periods too.
High: 18
