A ridge lies over the North Island today bringing mostly settled weather, strong northerlies build about Wellington however. For the South Island temperatures become hot in the east, expect cloudy areas in the west. Just after midnight a front moves onto the lower South Island bringing showers.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny areas and some high cloud with light winds in the morning then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 23-24

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny with a few clouds about (some high cloud too), light winds in the
morning for most tend westerly in the afternoon. The Bay Of Plenty sees sunny
spells with light winds in the morning then afternoon northerlies, which ease
later in the day.
Highs: 23-24

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds in the morning, afternoon easterlies right on the
coast. Inland winds tend northwesterly with warmer temperatures.
Highs: 24-28

Western North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds in the morning, westerlies from midday. Cloud
a little more frequent at times from midday.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington

Sunny spells with northerly winds, strong from afternoon. Late evening
cloud thickens.
High: 20

Nelson

Sunny with light winds in the morning, afternoon northerlies.
Highs: 23

Marlborough

Sunny with northerly winds, becoming gusty at times from midday. Late
evening some high cloud is possible.
High: 27

Canterbury

Sunny with easterlies developing near the coast, inland winds tend
northwesterly with hot temperatures. Northwesterlies break through to the coast
in the evening bringing a mild end to the day about the likes of Christchurch.
Some late high cloud possible.
Highs: 26-32

West Coast

Cloudy spells with northwesterly breezes, cloud thickens about South
Westland with rain there from midnight.
High: 18

Coastal Otago

Sunny with light winds tending easterly in the afternoon, showers develop
overnight or perhaps even towards dawn the next morning with a cold southwest
change.
Highs: 20-21

Southland & Central Otago

Mostly sunny with some cloud increasing from late afternoon, west to
northwesterly breezes. After midnight a cool southerly change develops with
rain.
Highs: 22-28
