Our cold southwesterly front moves over the North Island today bringing rain or showers to most areas. The South Island comes under the influence of a weak ridge of high pressure bringing more settled weather for most although gusty westerlies and the odd shower may still affect the far south.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy with a few showers developing this morning with westerly winds. Showers heavy for a time around midday and early afternoon with a southwest change then easing with sunny spells sneaking through. Winds swing round to the southeast overnight with another period of showers possible.
Highs: 13-14

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Rain develops this morning with light winds, a few heavy falls possible in the afternoon. Southeasterlies freshen late afternoon with rain easing then clearing at night. Snow to 900m about the Central North Island.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island
Winds change southerly early to mid morning with rain developing, rain eases to showers later in the evening. Rain may take till early afternoon to move into Gisborne.
Highs: 12-14

Northern Taranaki
Showers with brisk southerlies, showers clear early afternoon with the odd sunny spell then increasing as winds tend more southeast.
High: 13

Western North Island south of northern Taranaki
Rain eases to the odd shower around midday, long dry spells at times from afternoon. Brisk south to southeasterly winds.
High: 11-12

Wellington
Morning rain eases to the odd shower. Mostly cloudy skies during the day with strong cold southerlies.
High: 11-12

Nelson
Morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny by midday. South to southeast breezes.
Highs: 12-13

Marlborough
A period of morning rain clears then expect sunny spells to increase in the afternoon, cold southerly winds ease overnight.
Highs: 12

Canterbury
A few early coastal showers clear then expect mostly sunny weather, southwest breezes ease in the evening. Later in the evening a period of further showers is possible for North Canterbury especially about hills and ranges.
Highs: 11-12

West Coast
Sunny from early in the morning, southerly breezes.
Highs: 11-12

Coastal Otago
Brisk west to southwest winds. A mix of sunny spells and some cloud with the risk of a shower now and then otherwise expect a mainly dry day.
Highs: 10-11

Central Otago
Mostly sunny weather with just a few clouds about after a frosty start, light south to southwest breezes.
High: 10

Southland
Mostly cloudy in the morning with the chance of a shower, a few sunny spells develop into the afternoon. Brisk westerlies ease later in the evening.
High: 11
