An anticyclone in the Tasman Sea directs a southwesterly airflow over New Zealand today, a weakening front slowly moves northwards over the South Island during the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some evening cloud about western coastal fringes may bring a light shower. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny weather with light winds, southwesterlies for Taranaki.
Highs: 15-18

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny for Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay, showers about Gisborne clear around midday then sun breaks through. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Wellington
Mostly sunny weather with light northwesterly winds.
High: 17-18

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud possible, light winds.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud at times, some lower level cloud late afternoon or evening as light winds tend southerly.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast
Rain about Fiordland eases in the afternoon to showers, clearing by evening. Further north expect cloudy areas, a few showers late afternoon or evening. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Showers develop early morning about Southland, clearing around midday then some sun breaks through from afternoon. Otago is dry at first, risk of a shower late morning / midday then drying out in the afternoon with some sun. West to northwest winds change southwest.
Highs: 14-17
